Life Saver

Jan

Poetry

Thank you doctor
For listening to me
For showing understanding
For treating me like a person

Thank you doctor
For taking me seriously
For looking me in the eye
For ordering the tests

Thank you doctor
For not giving me
Empty reassurances
And platitudes

If not for you,
I could have carried on
Accepting the symptoms
Until it was too late!

Early diagnosis is so important in increasing your chances of survival…
but…when there’s no-one there to tell you to go to the doctor, it’s easy to put off.
If the doctor doesn’t take your symptoms seriously, you tell yourself you’re being silly or imagining things. It’s hard to go back, especially if as in many cancers – the symptoms are vague.
My GP was my life-saver.
