I met a patient newly diagnosed with prostate cancer. He was so unsure of his next step or indeed what the future has in store for him, but he seemed so determined to live. I imagined him having to explore his emotions, his ambitions and his strength of character.

I think this piece captures the aspect of navigating such a dangerous yet also stabilising conversation that many patients have to delve into when it comes to their health, the idea that every step is uncertain it could lead to them plunging into the cold of the water but yet the artist shows that the patient treks on with bold explorative determination. It takes true strength to come to terms with your own health and how to navigate it.
