Experience. Inspiration. Knowledge. Growth.
On the surface this book is merely a ‘Companion to English Literature’, but when one looks deeper there is more to be found. This book symbolises my passion for English Literature. I have recently come to a greater appreciation of words, reading and creativity.
Inside the book is a tree, formed from the pages of the book, which represents the lasting effect of my appreciation for the medical humanities. The tree as a whole, is an embodiment of my personal and intellectual growth. The roots represent the strong foundations I have developed to aid this growth, both in academic and social realms. Without these sturdy roots in my life, I would not be where I am today. Finally, the leaves represent the blossoming of each of our lives, as we take what we have learned from the past into the future, which, I believe, holds great opportunities for us to flourish further.

I really like the way that this piece works both physically, in the three-dimensional nature of the tree, as well as metaphorically, in its symbolism. The degree of time and effort which must have gone into producing this really conveys a love of the humanities. I particularly like the use of shadow, light and colour creating the image of the tree. I feel it is both beautiful and profound, immediately appealing to the observer yet at the same time a clearly introspective work of art
