I Can Only Hope
Hope and hope alone.
I can only hope that when I grow old.
That my heart,
My heart does not grow cold,
That it does not weaken,
And that all of life’s tragedies it can hold.
I can only hope that when I grow old,
That my energy for life,
My energy does not fold,
That it does not change,
And that my essence remains bold.
I can only hope that when I grow old,
That my memories,
My memories are set in gold,
That stay with me,
And that my misfortunes go untold.
I can only hope that when I grow old,
That my soul.
My soul I have not sold.
That I have lived and learned.
And that in life after death my fate cannot be foretold.
When I grow old what will be will be,
But for now I can only hope and hope alone.
