Imagine if?
I decided to use fruit and other foods as an analogy for the human body. I wanted to show how easily the body can be damaged, and yet still the damaged mind is forgotten. Another reason for using food was my personal opinion that a good diet and lots of exercise promotes well-being.
I wanted to introduce some dry/wry humour as well, as people often deal with stressful situations by using humour. It can make a stressful situation a lot easier to deal with.
My aim was to use bold, striking pictures to make clear points. the main prority was to make an impact.
Whole Person Care, Year One, 2010
I think that the use of rhetorical questions in this piece are particularly effective in bringing the audience into the patient’s perspective in order to really think about the issues raised. It also does well at making the point that the whole person has to be treated, by addressing their emotional needs and not just treating their physical problems.
This is a very effective way of showing some of the fears and stresses that patients experience throughout their care. The rhetorical questions lead the readers to relate to patients and understand their concerns. It also showed how patients may not understand what the right health behaviour is, or the right treatment option. This highlights the importance of shared/informed decision making.
