Nature’s Fractals

Gareth Campbell

Mixed-media

I have been playing with ideas of how to capture the spirit of a location in my artwork for a while, and have arrived at these patterns through experimentation and box counting analysis to increase the level of fractility in my ink drawings. For me, the unique images in the set evoke memories of the location that inspired them, and it is well documented how fractal images can have a calming effect on us. Pieces from the series featured in this exhibition were conceived near rivers or streams where the soothing sounds of flowing water infused the creative process. This experience of tranquillity is intrinsic to these artworks, inviting you to share in the serenity and connection to nature that these environments provide.

The sky informs the colour palette. Trees and turbulent water dictate the fractal patterns. All combined with hand drawn ink doodles drawn at, or inspired by, the location. https://www.gazlawrence.art/gallery/digital-art
