Reflection

On Dorothy’s first day at the surgery art sessions it was discovered that both she and another member of the group had been up at 3.00 that morning staring at the full moon.

They described how there was an ‘eerie, compelling light’ and ‘even the little scuttling clouds shone white’.

In this painting Dorothy drew upon her visual memory and attempted to re-create the ‘primordial quality’ of that particular night sky.

Two years ago Dorothy sustained severe and multiple physical injuries. She feels that handling natural materials – particularly wood and wool has a healing effect. Being part of an ongoing group dynamic is very important to Dorothy – her motto is ‘Strength through Unity’ and she suggests that art practice and observation have helped to restore her damaged memory and facilitate connection-making.

Dorothy says ‘creative work gives us ways of reflecting on the events in our lives.’
