A portrait in time
Through drawing a portrait of myself, with ECG’s to represent the building blocks of what keeps us alive, I wanted to explore the transience of our ever-changing life experiences. I thought it quite interesting, how, at one time, nothing is ever the same, both internally and physically, hence this self portrait has captured a version of myself which will never be exactly the same as any past or future forms. The ECG lines in the background signify the intrinsic beat in us powering our lives, and each ECG line has been drawn to flatline on the right side of the page. This reflects how our lives will defiantly come to an end as time progresses. In addition, each ECG trace has been drawn in its own unique colour, to reflect the array of physical and personal building blocks which make us ‘us’, and how they’ll inevitably fade in time, as our body also fades. But in any snapshot in time, we exist in a form that could never be repeated in the same way.
