A message to our future doctors
Jean’s image depicts a heart enclosing four people of diverse age and gender. The words Listening, Empathy and Caring spring from the heart.
Jean mentioned a heart-wrenching incident when her child was confined to a wheel-chair. When she asked the consultant if there was any hope that her son might recover from this unexpected debilitating condition, Jean was informed: You can’t revive anything that is dead and buried!
Her message to medical students is simple to treat everyone with compassion and as an individual.

Thank you for sharing this story and art-work. It has demonstrated to me how much things health professionals say to patients and their families, however small, can have a massive impact and stay with people. It is always important to be compassionate and empathetic. As a medical student, I will remeber this story and advice.
