Let Go

Farook Sarfaz

Poetry
Let go of my hands,
Let them touch the tips of the stars at night,
And move with the shimmering paths of light.
Let them glide through the sands that lead down to the sea.
Let them sail the boat that will set me free.

Let go my heart.
Let it push for the dreams that sleep under pain.
And follow its sails down old country lanes.
Let it beat to the rhythm of a stormy night.
Let it take me aboard the freedom flight.

Let go of my soul,
Let it mix with the blues and whites of the skies,
And dance with the wind to the eagles cries.
Let it breathe amongst trees and sing with nature’s voice.
Let it flow with the waters of the river of choice.

I tried to imagine myself as a person misunderstood and limited in their way of life, trying to break free. Like any activity such as this it is quite difficult to produce an authentic account of the feelings and surroundings of this person. It is interesting how one relates personal experiences to the subject in hand – and how, as I found – mundane events can spark provocative thoughts. It was also a challenge to place past experiences into a fictional, more abstract form but I feel the result is quite pleasing.
