Get Creative – Submit Your Artwork
A few general tips– apologies for stating the obvious – but offered as a checklist!
Photographing Visual Pieces (Paintings, Textiles, Collage, Drawing etc)
Please pay attention to lighting – ideally photograph your work propped against a neutral wall in natural lighting conditions, excluding shadows and reflections!
Please straighten and crop the image ready for upload – including no background paraphernalia, items you are using to prop up the work, hints of pets keen to be in on the action etc.
2D Image Format. Please submit photographs as jpg’s, graphics as png’s. Ideally a width no less than 1000px.
Film – please send as mp4/ WAV / avi
Audio – please send as mp3
3D Work – feel free to include images from several perspectives. We can include these in a sequence.
Written Work
We like to include an image to accompany written artworks – ideally the author would create their own image – photograph, drawing collage etc. However, if you are sourcing a visual from the internet, we would recommend the Unsplash site (www.unsplash.com) this is an extensive, global, photographic archive and copyright- free. Please acknowledge your sources.
Confidentiality
Please be highly sensitive to confidentiality issues. and gain full permission if your work involves others. Consider identifiability carefully, altering as appropriate.
Summitting your work
The arts have been integral to medical education at Bristol across the years with embedded curricular opportunities for our students to submit works to OOOH!! reflecting on medical themes.
However we particularly welcome patient perspectives and specialist contributions from medics, artists and allied folk with an interest in the medical humanities and invite you to extend the range and depth of our curation.
In your email to the curator Catherine at epcalr@bristol.ac.uk please also include:
A title for your Creative Piece, the medium, (painting, photography, prose, poem, collage, mixed/multimedia etc.
An accompanying reflection to contextualize your Creative Piece.
Your name – however the work can be anonymous or a pseudonym.
Collaborative works are also very welcome!
Occasionally, light-touch editing of supporting text is sometimes appropriate – please let Catherine know at the time of email submission if this is an issue.
Apologies if the curator does not acknowledge receipt of your creative piece promptly.
We will keep your works on file and notify you if/when your work is a good fit for either the current curation, or for forthcoming specialist exhibitions/events.
The curatorial team thanks you very much for your interest!
