Trevor Thompson
Trevor is a GP in Bristol and a teacher in Bristol Medical School. Self-styled “educative creative”, he had the idea for OOOH!! whilst digging on his allotment back in 2007. For Trev medicine really is as much art as it is science. Separate the two at your peril, he opines. The art of medicine locates our engagement with what health and healthcare means to those (patients, students, staff) who find themselves in its grips. He is thrilled and humbled by the creative capacity of medical students – art for art’s sake and as a way to reflect deeply on professional practice. Trevor’s main UoB profile is coming soon.
Catherine Lamont–Robinson
Catherine is an artist/educator, curator and researcher with a particular interest in multi-sensory and participatory engagement. She is an honorary lecturer in the School of Population Health Sciences at Bristol Medical School. Along with web designer and then medical student, Danny van de Klee, Catherine was the creative director and curator of the original OOOH!! website. She teaches on several UoB courses through arts-based enquiry and from disability-studies perspectives.
Christian Thorne
Christian is a web and multimedia developer based in Bristol. He came on board to help bring Out of our Heads up to date, from it’s original creation back in 2007. “It’s been great to work with the team to develop an easy system for students to quickly find what they’re looking for, and help design a more modern look and feel… I was also part of the team transferring artwork across from the old website, this process helped me understand the importance of sharing comments, I’ve read a few and can see how connecting with these experiences could really help others… Great project, look forward to seeing it grow!”. christianthorne.co.uk
Dominic Alder
Dominic is a learning technologist, based at Bristol Medical School. He has run several SSC and Student Choice projects for students to create their own innovative and engaging digital learning materials. Dominic was part of the working group for the first OOOH!! website that celebrated a more artistic form of student creativity, and was delighted to be invited by Trevor to be part of the team for planning the redesign in 2020.
Juliet Brown
Juliet is a GP in North Somerset and lecturer in Bristol. She leads the Effective Consulting (EC) course in year one at Bristol Medical School: an experiential course where students develop foundational skills in connecting with patients and the human experience of health and illness. Effective consulting foregrounds the values of curiosity, compassion, collaboration, criticality and creativity. Throughout the year, EC brings together art and science with a creative exploration of early clinical encounters. Juliet is a frustrated artist with enthusiasm outweighing ability! She particularly enjoys nature and landscape photography as a mindful endeavour: her work can be found on Instagram @julietnicola
